about

Over guitars worthy of a 90’s high school movie, Puck asks simply “my best friend, why did you decide to be a violent man?” Delivered like a lullaby, the song holds the complexity of heartbreak, mental illness, and accountability simultaneously. “I didn’t really have much music to heal by” says Puck,“so I made some.”

lyrics

My best friend
Why did you decide to be a violent man? Is it that you want somebody to notice
You’ve been crying?
I know it’s been
Harder than you think we all could understand, but holding in the dark to find some
tenderness
Has got you tired.

I tried to help heal you too
But then I realized that’s only something that you can do.
I’m holding on to what I feel
But when your words don’t say what you mean, I just need something real.

I’m heartbroken
Tethered by the visions of our future’s past, or was it ecstasy of shared unhappiness
That’s got me grieving?
Do you remember when
The start of spring uttered young innocence? We were still kids, I like to think of us
back then
It was easy.
I didn’t want to go
Leaving was the hardest thing I’ve ever known, but words of love your whispering don’t
help me grow
When you keep harming.
My best friend
Thinking of the kids my body wants to have, I thought that you wanted to share the
path
Of this living.

I tried to help heal you too
But then I realized that’s only something that you can do.
I’m letting go what wasn’t true
But if we keep on loving what’s left, that’s the same abuse.

I know it’s been
Several years of wanting to understand, but making peace gets harder when you reach
back in
And I’m finally healing.
My best friend
Why do you decide to be a violent man? I’ve been here loving you and want to hear us
laugh
But you keep harming.
